Album cover for this punk band called The Rituals. I initially had an idea to use the umbrellas and rain. The band wanted to have some sort of strange or dark imagery, so I think we came to somewhat of a comprimise. I tried to get the general feeling of the album and tried hard not to make another typical punk album cover ( lots of help from Nicolo, the lead singer).... The inside drawing (with lyrics) is of random people, the band member's portraits mixed in. p.s. ara once again saved me with awesome type skillz. and kerning. i learned to appreciate the subtle art of kerning

Hi Josh, love your retro style: the ink work with the faux-spot colours seems to be serving you well. How long have you been using it, professionally or outside of work? And I'm curious to know how much of your process is on paper, rather than digital. (If you don't mind letting out your secrets. But if you do, then fair enough.)
I like the heads, they're really rad....how come I'm not in there?

Hey, that album cover looks like a rip off of an old Nathan Huang work I once saw. Hack!
dang, that guy was harsh. he sounds like some british guy that i know over here in japan...
suspicious...
damn!!! bringing up the past! Where I get my "inspiration" is top secret!
i thought you were gonna post something nathan?
brad- thanks! I've been using this type of illustration for almost a year now...I was doing silkscreen in school when I started using a limited pallete. It didn't really make sense to do silkscreen for clients with short deadlines, so I figured out how to work digitally. I usually do the drawing or linework by hand and then all the color digitally. its really easy to duplicate silkscreen effects in photoshop...I'll try posting the linework its easier to see the process
Ah yes, it all makes sense now. It had reminded of old magazines I'd seen in the sixties, but now that you say silkscreen... I suppose that accounts for the downward sort of stroke in the tan background colour. If you're still interested in silkscreen, you might enjoy googling Christopher Pratt, a Canadian artist from my home province of Newfoundland whose really done quite well with it over the past forty years or so.
josh rocks.
nathan rocks.
that is all.
frank is sexier than ever.
