Good Times

by Nathan

The Times have been good to me. Got a call a couple weeks back from the estimable Sam Weber to do a spot for the NY Times OpEd about food choices. I had been a little sleep deprived, so some of my ideas may have been questionable... like the giant burger boxing the giant apple.

While I was in the middle of sketching that, I got a call from the LA Times Book Review. The review was about a cabbie who, after being barred from seeing his son by his ex-wife, writes a hate-filled book and buries it in her yard... only to have it resurface 500 years later and turned into a religion.

Talk about contrasting topics!
A little sleep deprivation can be a good thing.
Nice job on both illustrations.

Great concept, I like the one on the 3rd sketch also, I think that one is pretty funny.

Dom - this piece was one of those rare occasions when the sketches and illustration came without too much struggle on my part. usually i'm gruelling away at composition for ages.

Pablo - thanks. the idea is always the most important (and toughest part) for me, so i'm really glad to hear that.

Ron - seriously, sweaty guys are one of the keys in illustration.

R - i'm set then. it's rare that i ever get a full night's rest, but usually that's my own fault.

Josh - i have no idea what you're referring to, and i don't really want to know.

Al - yes, that's me. i'm worshipping your left buttock.

Manuel - thanks. i could have probably gone even more over the top with the whole "ten commandments" thing.
