A day at the movies...

by Frank

Hello friends and people who secretly hate me,

I made this short film about three years ago. It's a trailer of Vittorio De Sica's classic film "The Bicycle Thief" from 1948--if it was to be re-made today by Jerry Bruckheimer. On a student's budget, though. All the actors were my friends at the time and I'm in there, too. If you click on the link it'll open in a new window. Enjoy!

Hey,

I did this painting a while back called "monster" and per chance it happened to be the topic for Illustration Friday. So I decided to recycle.

America

by josh

My first map! One of the places I've always wanted to work for is National Geographic Adventure magazine....my Dad has a subscription so I was really excited to get a big assignment from them. They wanted me to make a map of the US featuring different points of interest. I had a lot of fun doing this job the entire way through and was a nice change from assignments I normally get. I've enclosed a rough layout that was sent to me, but if you click on the thumb you can see a closer version.

nathan angry.

by Nathan

Last week, I had the unfortunate experience of having my harddrive die, which caused me a good amount of anguish as I hadn't backed it up for six months. Foolish, I know. Getting it fixed was also a bit of an ordeal, since I am living in Japan and I no speak japanese. Add to that some crappy co-workers and you've got an angsty Nathan. So, during my days in the office, I vented my frustrations onto paper without thinking, and it turned out to be rather therapeutic.

The drawings also turned out to be kind of weird.

If you're interested, I've updated the rest onto the sketchbook section of my website.

meditation

by josh

Illustration for Outisde Magazine's "The Hardway". The writer goes on a three day meditation retreat and has a hard time letting go of his type-A goal oriented personality. Mostly, the story was about how outdoor, athletic, adventure types are able to clear their mind of all the excess and learn to focus. I read this and was interested in doing something calm or zen but honestly had a hard time coming up with a solid concept. Perhaps mostly due to the fact stories that are filled with action or some interesting slant are usually easier for me than something that's about "clearing your mind". I ended up having a lot of fun drawing it especially the Hokusai tree.

Le Crayon Brule

by josh

Next Saturday night (March 18th) Frank and I are doing a small drawing show at The Drawing Club here in LA. Check out these images for more info. Pure drawing, doodles and other goodness will be up. It's going to be super rad, we're both excited to try out some new things and show some pieces we've been hiding away for a bit. Frank's piece is ink on Bristol paper and mine is pencil and gouache on Rives BFK.
