NOLA

by josh

A while back I was asked to illustration a new tribute album by jazz singer/performer, Harry Connick Jr. This job was especially interesting to me because most of the tracks on this CD are remakes of classic New Orlean songs. The vision was to make the artwork reminiscent to the glory days. I created a map of the city that folded into the actual album cover.

I've never actually been to New Orleans and spent quite a bit of time researching various landmarks and some of the history and music there. Ended up buying a bunch of tourist pop-up maps as well as "insider guides".

This assignment proved to be rather difficult just due to the fact that there were so many different people editing and art directing... I kept on thinking it reminds me of those Disneyland maps you get when you enter the theme park. Probably one of the most difficult jobs I've had to do in a long time.
